J.B. Pritzker on Wednesday, May 11, 2023. HB3162 (PA 103-0002) , the Act-of-Duty Bill, makes a disability related to Covid 19 a ‘retroactive and presumptive Duty Disability.’ The presumptive exposure and contraction must have been documented in the period between March 9, 2020, through June 30, 2021, provided, the presumption does not apply if the fireman was on a leave of absence or otherwise not required to report for duty for a period of 14 or more consecutive days immediately prior to the date of contraction of Covid-19. The Act is effective immediately. The Board will be working with Staff and legal counsel to determine the process utilized by the Fund to implement this new legislation. It is anticipated that details regarding the Act’s implementation will be discussed at the July Retirement Board Meeting.
